Education

At the Institute of Medical Psychology, we teach medical students in the 2nd and 3rd semester of their training. The ‘course’ in the 2nd semester introduces the students to the basic concepts and models of Medical Psychology and Medical Sociology. Our lecture series ‘Special Topics in Medical Psychology and Sociology’ consolidates these topics further. The ‘seminar’ in the 3rd semester is focussed on doctor-patient communication. It is the first module of the longitudinal communication curriculum which spans the entire training program here at the LMU (see KomMeCuM for the entire program on communication) and introduces the students to the basics of communication.

In addition to the mandatory courses, seminars and lectures, the institute offers a selection of free-choice courses for medical students in the preclinic on subjects ranging from cognitive neurosciences and genetic models of disease to psychoanalysis and LGBTQ in Medicine.

For the trainees who are based in the Institute (that would include post-doctoral fellows, PhD students, and medical students working on their doctoral thesis) there are various career development courses as well as journal clubs and seminars on the subjects of chronobiology and sleep.
